The Cheltenham Gold Cup could go a long way to clearing up the Grand National picture this year. Current favourite Teaforthree and leading contenders Triolo D’Alene and On His Own are all set to line up in steeplechasing’s blue riband event.
Nicky Henderson’s Hennessy Gold Cup winner Triolo D’Alene has been cut to 12-1 for the Gold Cup following the news that Tony McCoy will ride. The champion jockey had originally been booked to ride Teaforthree for Rebecca Curtis but has been given permission to ride Nicky Henderson’s chestnut instead.
Triolo D’Alene has not run since winning at Newbury at the end of November. Henderson has been frustrated in his efforts to run the seven-year-old since with the prevailing ground conditions being against the French import.
The Lambourn trainer had originally said that he had entered him in the Gold Cup because everyone had been telling him that a Hennessy winner deserves to be in. That rather downbeat appraisal of the horse’s chances has been replaced with some very positive comments in recent days and punters have taken notice. Read more here.
